SEC. 4.100. GENERAL.
§ 4.100
The City and County's executive branch consists of the Mayor's office plus departments, boards, commissions, and other units that exercise governmental power. Appointive boards and commissions created by state or federal law are subject to this Charter's Article IV provisions, to the extent permitted by law.
San Francisco's executive branch—the part of government that runs day-to-day operations—is made up of the Mayor's office, various city departments, and boards and commissions. Those boards and commissions that are appointed (rather than elected) must follow the rules in this Charter, as long as state and federal law allows them to.
- Complex:The phrase 'to the extent law permits' and cross-reference to 'this Article IV' require readers to consult other parts of the Charter to understand which rules actually apply to which bodies.
